Beaver Dam Heath, Berwick
February 16, Saturday, 10 am - noon
We certainly have snow! and the ground was well frozen before the snow, so this hike is a go. Snowshoes or cross-country skis will be necessary. We will have a couple extra pair of snowshoes available.
Beaver Dam Heath, an important wetland area in Berwick bounded by Rte. 9, Diamond Hill Road, and Old Sanford Road, is one of those places which is inaccessible in warmer months. There is a magic about this isolated, sunken area where the outside world dares not intrude.
Explore the frozen beauty of this rare Atlantic White Cedar swamp and learn more about the natural history of this unique and biologically significant region. This trek requires excellent frozen conditions - do check with us.
Meet on Diamond Hill Road in Berwick, at the recently acquired Grant's Meadow III property. Michael Wright will lead.
RSVP as numbers are limited. It's always wise to confirm date, location and footgear recommendations. Free to members, suggested donation of $5 ($10/family) for non-members.
