Update: How about a hike instead? Not much snow but there could be icy spots so grippers on your boots and/or a hiking pole could be helpful.
The Tatnic region of Wells, South Berwick and Ogunquit has a unique geology and natural history resulting in unusual features such as Baker's Oven that have been the subject of much folklore. Hike leader Tin Smith will take the group to the Big Bump, Orris Falls, and, if the marsh is frozen, to Baker's Oven. If time permits, the group will also visit a 5th 'Wonder of Tatnic', Balancing Rock. Snowshoes are suggested but not required.
RSVP as numbers are limited. It's always wise to confirm date, location and footgear recommendations. Free to members, suggested donation of $5 ($10/family) for non-members.
Directions to Thurrell Road trailhead (at a gated woods road, with parking for two cars):
From S. Berwick: Heading east on Rte. 4, bear right onto Agamenticus Rd.. At Emery’s Bridge Road, stay left on Knights Pond Rd. for 4 miles. Bear right onto Hooper Sands Rd. for .25 mile. Left onto Great Hill Rd. to end, then left onto Thurrell Rd.. 0.9 mile on the right is the trailhead.
From N. Berwick, go 1.9 miles south from the railroad tracks (Lower Main St. becomes Boyd’s Corner Rd.) then right on Thurrell Rd. for 0.9 miles to trailhead on left.
From Ogunquit, take Berwick Rd. as it becomes Ogunquit Rd. and then Boyd’s Corner Rd., a total of 6.8 miles, then go left on Thurrell Rd. for 0 .9 miles to trailhead on left.
