Spring Auction: Conservation Matters

Save the date:
2011 Spring Auction
March 12th

GWRLT thanks all who contributed to the success of Great Works Regional Land Trust's 2010 Spring Auction. Conservation does matter.

The bidding was lively, the conversations congenial, the food delicious. The accounting is not yet complete, but it is looking that $16,000 was raised for GWRLT, just shy of the totals for 2008 and 2009. Pretty good!

We thank:

The 120 or so individuals and businesses who donated goods and services to the auction. See the Auction List.

Our sponsors, whose donations fund the expense of the auction so that all the bids from auction night go directly to GWRLT. Kennebunk Savings, Minuteman Press, Civil Consultants, Marshwood Family Care, Pepperland Cafe.

As always we are grateful to our generous and accomodating hosts, Spring Hill Restaurant and Banquet Center.

GWRLT Volunteers.

It is volunteers who enable Great Works to do its work, and it takes a lot of volunteer hours to put this auction together year after year. The Auction Committee, chaired by the indefatigable Pat Robinson, begins work in November, soliciting the auction donations. Committee members are Nancy Geneseo (who is the one to thank for the smooth operation of the Silent Auction and checkout!), Galen Mott, Susan Berman, Jane Adams, Sandy Agrafiotis, Susie Burke, Sandy Agrafiotis and Wendy Pirsig.

The weekend of the auction requires a lot of hands (and heads) and we couldn't do without the help of Jane Adams, Jane Ahlfeld, Cindy Bean, Bobbi Beavers, Floyd Beavers, Len Carroll (for taking pictures), Karen Eger, Cheryl Hoffman, Teddy Hoffman, Sally Hunter, Noah Landis, Scott Landis, Nina Maurer, Angela Martin, Galen Mott, Marion Muller, George Muller, Wendy Pirsig, Joan Reilly, Paul Reilly, Kate Reynolds, Kathy Sweet, Bill Thomas, Moira Wright, Ciara Wright, Gary Wetzel and Nancy Wetzel.  We don't want to forget to thank our fabulous auctioneer Howard Koeppel.

And last, but certainly not least, thank you to those of you who attended the auction and bid enthusiastically and generously!

Thank you, one and all, for a successful auction, both fun and profitable.

We are very pleased to offer even more foodstuff from local producers, including a Local Food Basket with dried beans from the new owner of Lover’s Brook Farm, honey collected at Beach Plum Farm, ‘Perfect Pickles’ from South Berwick grown cukes, and certificates for corn from Wally’s and strawberries from Riverside Farm. Look for certificates for organic yogurt from Brookford Farm, for eggs or poultry from Chick Farm or a winter CSA share from Wolf Pine Farm. Not to mention certificates for numerous restaurants in our towns.

And it’s not just the auction items that make the evening fun. We’re all glad to get out with other people after the long winter and Spring Hill Restaurant & Banquet Center plays the gracious host, providing delicious appetizers and dinner to a sellout crowd. The Silent Auction items are arrayed in the Dining Room and the convivial bidding ends when dinner is served at 6:30 pm. The Live Auction portion of the evening begins at 7:30 pm and is over by 8:30 or so. Our many and experienced volunteers pitch in to make for smooth checkout.

Tickets are $35, or $30 each for a reserved table of 10. You will get appetizers, a drink, dinner, door prizes and, of course, competitive bidding on dozens of items donated by local businesses and individuals. All tables of 10 have a chance to win the table prize.

Get your tickets early. Call the office at 207-646-3604 to reserve and pay by credit card. We are requesting advance purchase this year in order to streamline the check-in process.

If you can’t make it the night of the auction you can send us a mail-in bid. Call 207-646-3604 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.
